Radhanagar deserves its reputation. It also gets everyone. These five take more effort to reach, which is exactly why they stay quiet.
1. Kala Pathar — Havelock
About 12 km from the Havelock jetty. Dark rock, pale sand, and almost nobody after 5pm. It's a walking beach rather than a swimming one — go for the last hour of light.
2. Vijaynagar — Havelock
Shallow, calm, and shaded along the treeline. If you want the water without the water sports, this is the one. Good for a slow swim and a long sit.
3. Laxmanpur — Neil Island
Neil (Shaheed Dweep) is a shorter hop and a slower island. Laxmanpur faces the sunset; Sitapur on the other side catches sunrise. Do both if you're staying the night — they're twenty minutes apart.
4. Lalaji Bay — Long Island
Long Island keeps its crowds out through sheer inconvenience: it's a boat ride and then a walk. Lalaji Bay is the payoff — wide, empty, and quiet in a way the busier islands can't manage.
5. Ross & Smith — Diglipur
Far north, two islands joined by a natural sandbar you can walk across at low tide. Getting to Diglipur is a commitment — long road or a boat — and that commitment is the entire reason it stays this good.
When to go
March to May brings warmer days and noticeably thinner crowds, even at the popular beaches. If your dates are flexible, that's the window.
Two rules
- Check permits and access before you travel. Some areas are restricted, and rules change.
- Carry your rubbish back. These beaches are quiet because few people go. Keep them worth the ferry ride.
